    Focus 2 : Wine regions

    The Bekaa:

The main and essential place of Lebanese viticulture is undoubtedly the Békaa plain. This region of the Lebanese hinterland accounts for more than 90% of the country's wine production.
It is a magical place to discover, considered by some as the most beautiful vineyard in the world. Located between Mount Lebanon and Anti-Lebanon, the vineyards peak between 900 and 1400m of altitude.
You will find in these areas an important Bordeaux influence, both in winemaking and vines. You will taste red wines mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cinsault, Merlot and Syrah, then white wines made from Chardonnay, Muscat, Sauvignon, Ugni Blanc and Viognier.
Some winemakers try to bring local grape varieties up to date, but the majority of the wines come from international grape varieties. The taste of these wines will surprise you. The altitude, the climate and the soils will make you lose your points of reference.

Wine Passport can also offer you to discover small vineyards less known than those Bekaa, along the Mediterranean coast, between Syria and Israel.
